National Criminal Lawyers Represent Frank Zumbo in Appeal of Convictions

National Criminal Lawyers, led by our Principal Michael Moussa, has lodged an appeal on behalf of Francesco “Frank” Zumbo, former adviser to ex-MP Craig Kelly, against his recent convictions for aggravated indecent assault and assault with an act of indecency.

Mr Zumbo was sentenced to a two-year Intensive Corrections Order to be served in the community, following allegations involving several former staffers between 2014 and 2020. To this day, Mr Zumbo has maintained his innocence and continues to deny any criminal conduct.

We are arguing, from a legal standpoint, that the trial involved significant errors in the interpretation of evidence, and that the recorded conversations relied upon by the Crown lacked any explicit sexual content or aggressive intent. Our submission maintains that the tone and wider context of these conversations were mischaracterised at trial and did not amount to criminal conduct.

The appeal is currently being heard by Judge Woodburn in the Sydney District Court, with proceedings scheduled to continue on 16 April 2025.

As a law firm with a strong reputation for strategic and fearless representation, we are committed to ensuring Mr Zumbo receives a fair and just outcome. At National Criminal Lawyers, we believe every individual deserves the strongest defence and the full protection of the legal system.

Michael Moussa, widely regarded as one of the best lawyers in Sydney, is personally leading the appeal with diligence and unwavering advocacy.

We will continue to provide updates as this important case develops.
